Is It Safe to Take CBD with Prescribed Medication?
Throughout this blog, we have discussed the various ways that organic CBD can help keep us healthy. Everyone is different and has different medical conditions. To treat these conditions, people have medication prescribed to them. In this post, we will be taking a look at whether it is safe to take CBD with prescribed medications.
What Does The Science Say?
Before we propped up the question for this blog, the researchers at Penn State College of Medicine at Hershey beat us to the punch.
With cannabis legalization debate sweeping the country, they published a list of 57 prescription medications that may not interact well with medical cannabinoids, CBD oil, or medical or recreational cannabis. They did this by looking at a list of enzymes that process CBD and compared this to information for medications to find any potential overlaps. The majority of medicines on the list were opioids, thyroid hormones, anti-depressants, sedatives, and blood thinners.
When mixing these medications with CBD the consumer could feel some side effects such as dizziness and confusion. A big factor in how your body reacts to CBD is your metabolism. Depending on the speed of your metabolism, your body may be too slow in processing the medications you take. It is important to note that the study is still ongoing and will be updated as the research continues. Penn State will continue to update their list here.
Make no mistake, It is generally safe to take CBD with other medications. There isn’t much data of people going through major complications having taken all-natural CBD with other prescribed medications. However, you should always consult with a doctor when it comes to your condition and adding new supplements to your medical health routine.
