Following closely on the heels of the recent research regarding CBD’s role in the brain, a separate study involving psoriasis and CBD also brings potentially positive findings. Psoriasis is a disease where the skin develops red or purple spots. These spots are often accompanied by dryness and itchiness.
Considering August is also Psoriasis Awareness Month, the developments regarding the disease and CBD are timely. A study conducted in 2019 and published in the Clinical Therapeutics journal involved twenty patients. These patients were given an ointment enriched with CBD and the results showed that the ointment was successful in improving skin “parameters”. Furthermore, there were no signs of irritants or allergic reactions during the time the treatments were being administered.
CBD has a reputation for its anti-inflammatory properties. Although there is some suggestion that CBD salve has some possible beneficial effects, there is no significant amount of evidence to support it. Research published in the medical journal Dermatological Science in 2007 did yield promising results, however. The results indicate that cannabinoids suppress the growth of keratinocytes which support a possible role for CBD in psoriasis treatment.
